Medusa

This is another purely Zbrush sketch that was pretty fun. It was a lot of practice for hair and ZSpheres and other Zbrush things but it was the idea that was what made it fun. Simple idea really: Medusa  whose hair was snakes and had a snake body, instead has normal hair but this hair is what is alive that makes her gorgon body. Recently I was able to decimate it in Zbrush down to a size that Sketchfab can host it :)

Femme Fatale

Working off the female base model I made and making changes as time went on, each project made a new iteration of head and body. The Femme Fatale was born on a whim to try to create something that looked Pixar-esque. Its a difficult job for sure though. I personally like the head, but in hindsight, the body could use some work, namely the arms. I took body inspiration from some characters from The Incredibles. The character Mirage was very stickly and long and tall, while Mrs. Incredible had a very shapely body. Both were primary inspirations for this character.

When I finished this, I got the idea for a male partner for her, to make sort of a spy duo. Having the body shape of Mr. Incredible and the personality and brains of Krunk from Emperor's New Groove, he would be dumb clumsy partner to the Femme Fatale, portrayed as having everything in her head screwed on right with a body to match.
I think I got halfway into his base model before I abandoned the project in favor of a new idea.

Kiryuin Satsuki

Another fan art of an anime character. This one followed the Makise Kurisu method of sculpting an anime-styled head, but I also did it differently at the same time. Therefore, it has an anime-style nose, but other parts of the head are a little less anime.

This is Kiryuin Satsuki, from Kill La Kill.

Angles, with a stage platform.

Makise Kurisu

This is where my timeline gets a little muddled. I am not too sure when I did this fanart of Makise Kurisu from the anime Steins;Gate (one of my all-time favorites still). I had gotten a figure of this character as a birthday gift and I absolutely love it. So I wanted to recreate it. At the time, I think I found a resource to learn how to sculpt an anime-styled head in Zbrush, so that is where I started.

From there I sculpted the rest of the body, with some base modelling in 3DS Max.

Raining Frogs

With all the Zbrush sketches of the time out of the way, I went about and started making a human female base model and one of the first things I did was a simple civilian teenage girl. Nothing major, nothing spectacular.

During class, I usually finished my work quickly cause I was more experienced in 3D than other students. This led to having more free time to spend on individual projects. I had the idea to do a quick model of an animal. I chose a frog. I'm not entirely sure why I chose a frog, just that a frog came out what I was modelling. I was even able to rig it roughly with the Biped system in 3DS Max (a frog with a human biped skeletal system looked very creepy, especially with a human head as the head bone). I made a short animation of it just idling but unfortunately I cannot find that file. I know I probably have it on a drive I used for school, but I do not have the file readily available. In other words, I am lazy.
However, I went further and combined this project with a character I had been working on. Using the first female base (above) along with the frogs, I made this: Raining Frogs.

In hindsight, why would she be wearing her earphones like that outside her hoodie?

Been a long time...

It certainly has been a very long time since I've updated this blog. I've done tons of projects since I have last updated and so I hope to update with a couple individual posts leading up to now. I will post chronologically.
Without further ado:

This head was done shortly after my last post, I think I had a need to do some witches. Witch designs really inspire me. While I do like mages and wizards and that kind of fantasy theme, warlocks and witches (and not the Disney green hooked nose kind) have some really neat concepts and ideas going with them that can range from Harry Potter universe simplicity to cutesy Anime gothic themes. And its better when it can also be combined with steampunk or technology to create one of my favorite ideas: the "technomage". More on that idea later...

Another Zbrush sketch, this was mostly just messing around with various tools I wasn't used to using, namely ZSpheres.

Female Heads

Going along with the idea of building straight in Zbrush, I also wanted to try new methods of doing hair by using a brush I should have used much more often and a LONG time ago: the Dam_Standard brush. I tried various hairstyles for a head I also sculpted directly in Zbrush just to mess around. You can say that these are trials and speedsculpts.

These models catapulted me into my current and almost completed project: The Witch!
